Who We Are
SmileSonica Inc. is a Canadian company founded on the principle of making ideas and concepts widely available to benefit the world. As our company evolved, we applied our knowledge, experience, and commitment to pursue the unknown, meet new challenges, and be our best as a team.
The SmileSonica team designs, develops, manufactures, and commercializes medical devices, advanced materials, and instrumentation for medical applications in Canada and throughout the world.
The growing gap between orthodontic patients’ expectations and status-quo solutions led us to develop the Aevo System™, a patented therapeutic ultrasound medical device for in-vivo stimulation of dental tissue. SmileSonica Inc. is ISO 13485:2016 and MDSAP certified to design, manufacture, and distribute ultrasound therapy devices and accessories for use in dentistry.
The Aevo System™
Our flagship product is the Aevo System™ medical device with two models: Aevo System™ 2.0 (2015) and Aevo System™ (2019). Aevo System™ 2.0 (2015) is approved for sale in Canada, Europe and Australia, and Aevo System™ (2019) is approved for sale in Canada and pending in Europe and Australia.
Approved Indication for use: The Aevo System™ enhances the physiological processes associated with orthodontic treatment. Regular use of the Aevo System™ during orthodontic treatment will facilitate faster tooth movement and decrease orthodontically induced tooth root resorption.

SmileSonica Inc. is a technology company focused on the research, development, manufacturing, and commercialization of medical devices for dental and health care applications. We also produce advanced materials and instrumentation for medical applications. Our offices and manufacturing facility are located in Edmonton, Canada.
From 2006 to 2008, company founder Cristian Scurtescu was closely involved in the development of an ultrasonic dental technology at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB Canada. His passion to commercialize the technology and place it in the hands of dentists and patients led him to launch SmileSonica Inc. in 2008. Scurtescu resigned his position as a university R&D engineer, obtained the exclusive license to the ultrasonic dental technology, and devoted himself full-time to SmileSonica Inc.
Since 2008, Scurtescu has built and led an entrepreneurial team of engineers, scientists, and business people. This team has advanced the ultrasonic dental product from the concept stage to a commercially viable product, the Aevo System™. The Aevo System 2.0 (2015) and the new Aevo System (2019) are manufactured in Canada. The Aevo System 2.0 (2015) is approved for sale in Canada, Europe and Australia, and the new Aevo System (2019) is approved for sale in Canada.
In addition, since SmileSonica Inc. began in 2008, we have gained broad technical knowledge, a professional network, and supply chain experience in the medical, advanced materials, and instrumentation fields. This knowledge is currently being translated into new products and services, which are currently at various stages of development and validation.
